GEO LOUNGE

This week's Fashion Friday design board is inspired by Marco de Vincenzo Ready-to-Wear Spring 2015 Collection; in particular the geometric prints that I so lovingly adore.

When we think of geometrics in interiors, we often think of bold bright patterns in different shapes and sizes. Geometry is ubiquitous in our natural environment and will often also be found in architecture, furniture design, and fabrics. It is no longer confined to being displayed as art and is accessible to all.

It is not just a contemporary trend; it is one that has endured throughout history. The Ancient Greek and Moroccans both used bold geometric patterns as part of their architectural and interior design. The idea that a simple shape can create complex patterns is something this is universally appreciated.

Geometric prints are immediate eye catchers, and the most important thing is to have fun with it. These prints are meant to be fun and exciting whether it's for your wardrobe or your interior spaces.

My favorite design element in this design board is the Mirth Studio wood tiles designed by
Antonino Buzzetta. You can view Mirth Studio's fantastic wood tile collection here.

Have a lovely weekend, Ciao

GRAPHIC BLACK & WHITE

I've decided to dedicate my Friday blog posts to design boards, and particularly ones that are fashion inspired. Creating design or mood boards is an absolute favorite pastime of mine. It's an outlet that allows my creativity and my passion for all things beautiful to really shine through.

This week we will look into the classic color combination BLACK & WHITE or as I like to call it in my native language BIANCO e NERO...sounds much more sophisticated, no?

Black and white is trendy but at the same time will always remain sophisticated, chic and timeless. And when paired with graphic patterns they can be playful, edgy and modern. Opposites really do attract when it comes to black and white, and while these opposing tones produce high contrast, the real drama comes in when you introduce a vivid color like yellow, emerald green, or fuchsia to the combination.

Don't be afraid to experiment with this classic color combination, after all you can never go wrong with black, right?

I HEART THIS ART

Every now and then, I come across some amazing pieces of art from artists and photographers alike, and since recently I haven't been able to put this particular photographer and her work out of my mind.  I am a little surprised that I would fall so hard because her style is not something that I would usually gravitate to, but she has captivated me with her stunning and powerful photography.  The artist in question is none other than Stephanie Vovas.  She is a true genius.  The color of her photography is incredible and I love the feeling each image evokes.  Most of her work is infused with a 70's vibe which really resonates with my love for retro design.  Stephanie's photography has truly won me over and owning one of her prints has become an absolute must have in my home. You can view her spectacular collection here.

TO TUFT OR NOT TO TUFT

It seems to me that I am not the only one with this particular mindset, but most people, including myself are much more inclined to decorate their homes and leave their own master bedroom as a project for "another time".

Decorating the master bedroom is a task quite different from the rest of the house, unlike the kitchen or other living areas, a bedroom is a private haven for rest and relaxation. And it is the one room in your house that truly reflects your tastes and who you are as a person.

Well, after much procrastination, I have finally decided to make small changes in my own bedroom.  Just starting off small; the hubs and I have decided to make it a weekend project and tackle the headboard first.  I've collected some photos of great headboards for inspiration.  Will update you all when the task has been completed.  Have a great weekend!

BLACK, WHITE AND GOLD

Classic, clean and inherently chic, nothing quite makes a statement like black, white and gold.  Words like dramatic, sophisticated, classic and chic can all be great descriptives.  The key when working with this color palette is exercising full control over balance and scale.  Too much of one color can overwhelm a design.  When used carefully and in proportion, black, white and gold add up to a chic and stylish combination.

With a few tasteful pieces added in your decor, your home can be just as chic and gorgeous!

ISLAND DREAMING

For my birthday weekend, I had the chance to spend some time in Kingston, Ontario where my hubby and I enjoyed a lovely dinner cruise touring the islands of the St. Lawrence River.  The 1,864 islands range in size from over 40 square miles to smaller islands occupied by a single residence.  I was completely in awe of some of the beautiful and solitary homes perched on a tiny island, surrounded by shimmering waters and nature's beauty.  As the boat passed by these residences, I became infatuated and started daydreaming of what it would be like to live on an island.  Well, it doesn't hurt to dream.....
