BOND ST. APARTMENT, NYC - HOUSE TOUR TUESDAY

This week we are touring the Bond St. apartment in NYC designed by James Dixon Architect in collaboration with decorator Carolina George. This eclectic apartment combines a chic, modern look with a little bit of whimsy dispersed throughout.

Over-sized windows allow streams of sunlight in the two-story living room. Pattern and texture is what unifies these spaces set on a base palette of high value contrast black and white, while a functional library features a wall of bookcases with a rolling ladder for easy access. How about a zebra head overlooking below for a little quirkiness?

Across the living room is an elegant, modern dining room boasting trendy lucite chairs.

Adjacent to the dining room; the kitchen features a pillar of mirrored tiles and a bold, black island.

Gotta love these brass elephant head handles on the kitchen cabinet doors.

Brass hardware adorns the kitchen sink.

Second story lofted area with a view down below has access to the bedrooms. Great space for a writing desk, especially an all brass one!

This far eastern style sitting room is saturated with bold pattern and color, creating a personal sanctuary.

Bold splashes of pink highlights this bedroom featuring windows looking out to the living room below.

Floral fabric covering the bed and walls create a cocoon-like canopy.

I hope you've enjoyed a tour of this bold and eclectic NYC apartment, I know I did. Now all I want to know is... when can I move in?

BLACK, WHITE AND SOMETIMES GOLD

Black is by definition the most elegant color, add in its counterpart white, sprinkle a little gold and you've got a winning combination.  Nothing packs a more powerful punch than this bold color combination, whether it's for interior design or fashion and style.  It is also a versatile combination as it works well with other colors, such as brights, muted colors or neutrals.  To me, black, white and gold is exotic, sexy and glamorous.

Black, white and gold can be seen here in our pillow collection;

TO TUFT OR NOT TO TUFT

It seems to me that I am not the only one with this particular mindset, but most people, including myself are much more inclined to decorate their homes and leave their own master bedroom as a project for "another time".

Decorating the master bedroom is a task quite different from the rest of the house, unlike the kitchen or other living areas, a bedroom is a private haven for rest and relaxation. And it is the one room in your house that truly reflects your tastes and who you are as a person.

Well, after much procrastination, I have finally decided to make small changes in my own bedroom.  Just starting off small; the hubs and I have decided to make it a weekend project and tackle the headboard first.  I've collected some photos of great headboards for inspiration.  Will update you all when the task has been completed.  Have a great weekend!

...AND I THINK TO MYSELF, WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD!

Often times during the winter months I feel totally uninspired and lackadaisical about everything in my life.  Whether its for projects in my own home, my blog, my work for Via San Vito online shop, and sometimes even my wardrobe, I tend to dismiss every little thought or idea in hopes that a better one will come along. And so I continue to drag and drown myself in self pity and blame it all on the dull, banal and lifeless existence that is called "Winter".  The Canadian winter months are long and frigid, and if one is not a winter person, as I clearly am not, those months can seem even longer.

Whether I like or not, winter has not yet finished its course and so I must wait and try to encourage myself the best I can.  Sometimes an inspirational quote or an uplifting message could be all that we need to feel energized and excited about the upcoming season that promises to bring new life into the world around us.

BLACK, WHITE AND GOLD

Classic, clean and inherently chic, nothing quite makes a statement like black, white and gold.  Words like dramatic, sophisticated, classic and chic can all be great descriptives.  The key when working with this color palette is exercising full control over balance and scale.  Too much of one color can overwhelm a design.  When used carefully and in proportion, black, white and gold add up to a chic and stylish combination.

With a few tasteful pieces added in your decor, your home can be just as chic and gorgeous!
