THE LITTLE GREY SOFA

I think we all have realized by now that Grey has become the new Black and that we are using this color more and more in our homes and in our wardrobes. I'd like to think that owning a substantial piece of furniture, like a sofa for example, in grey is similar to owning "the little black dress".  Because "the little black dress" has become the staple of any woman's wardrobe, ideally is should be as simple as possible.  Therefore my analogy to "the little grey sofa" stands true in that it is versatile in many ways and it can certainly accommodate any decor style.

A grey sofa that I particularly love is Jonathan Adler's Malibu Sofa.  I think this sofa, like "the little black dress" is casual yet elegant and can be dressed up or down depending on the decor.  I like that it has a retro feel while maintaining a classic modernistic value.

I've designed three mood boards to help you visualize how one sofa can be used in three different design styles.  If you owned this sofa, how would you use it and in what decor style?

POWER OF THE PINSTRIPE

The allure and sophistication of men's suiting fabric has always fascinated me.  Pinstripe, houndstooth, herringbone, plaid, paisley, glen check, gingham, tartan... they're all fabulous patterns and look great on a classy guy sporting them, but my all time favourite is the pinstripe.  Pinstripes are usually synonymous with conservative menswear; politicians, bankers, business executives - they all wear them to appear serious, trustworthy and knowledgeable.  To their advantage, pinstripes are also very classy and sexy...certainly promoting the swagger effect...me... love!  Nothing sexier than a man in a pinstripe suit.

Pinstripe is a classic pattern, functional in fashion as in interior design.  It's a guaranteed unisex décor pleaser.  In home décor it has an elegant masculine effect that looks clean, crisp and ever so sophisticated.  Pinstripes are discreet and minimalist and are easy to match with any type of décor, either as focus or as accent.  They can provide movement and visual interest in any room.

Pinstripes are by no means a new notion, but without fail, a trend just waiting for a big revival. Menswear patterns are classics that are meant to stand the test of time, so why not decorate with them too?

Masculine sophistication meets feminine glamour - a powerful union.

I HEART THIS ART

Every now and then, I come across some amazing pieces of art from artists and photographers alike, and since recently I haven't been able to put this particular photographer and her work out of my mind.  I am a little surprised that I would fall so hard because her style is not something that I would usually gravitate to, but she has captivated me with her stunning and powerful photography.  The artist in question is none other than Stephanie Vovas.  She is a true genius.  The color of her photography is incredible and I love the feeling each image evokes.  Most of her work is infused with a 70's vibe which really resonates with my love for retro design.  Stephanie's photography has truly won me over and owning one of her prints has become an absolute must have in my home. You can view her spectacular collection here.
