TO TUFT OR NOT TO TUFT

It seems to me that I am not the only one with this particular mindset, but most people, including myself are much more inclined to decorate their homes and leave their own master bedroom as a project for "another time".

Decorating the master bedroom is a task quite different from the rest of the house, unlike the kitchen or other living areas, a bedroom is a private haven for rest and relaxation. And it is the one room in your house that truly reflects your tastes and who you are as a person.

Well, after much procrastination, I have finally decided to make small changes in my own bedroom.  Just starting off small; the hubs and I have decided to make it a weekend project and tackle the headboard first.  I've collected some photos of great headboards for inspiration.  Will update you all when the task has been completed.  Have a great weekend!

...AND I THINK TO MYSELF, WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD!

Often times during the winter months I feel totally uninspired and lackadaisical about everything in my life.  Whether its for projects in my own home, my blog, my work for Via San Vito online shop, and sometimes even my wardrobe, I tend to dismiss every little thought or idea in hopes that a better one will come along. And so I continue to drag and drown myself in self pity and blame it all on the dull, banal and lifeless existence that is called "Winter".  The Canadian winter months are long and frigid, and if one is not a winter person, as I clearly am not, those months can seem even longer.

Whether I like or not, winter has not yet finished its course and so I must wait and try to encourage myself the best I can.  Sometimes an inspirational quote or an uplifting message could be all that we need to feel energized and excited about the upcoming season that promises to bring new life into the world around us.

COOL, DRAMATIC ULTRA GLAM - PARISIAN STYLE

Every now and then I come across some amazing interiors while browsing the net that completely blow my mind. These are the type of designs that have me keep coming back for more. The interiors in question today are that of Lenny Kravitz.  In addition to being a singer/songwriter, record producer and actor, he also owns his own decorating firm Kravitz Design Studio.

Taking inspiration from the likes of Miles Davis and Gordon Parks, the rocker turned Renaissance man creates interiors with soulful elegance: Zebra prints, Togo quilted sofas, and plush deep-pile carpets that exude opulence, while black and white Walker Evans photographs vie with vibrant Warhols and gold Pedro Friedeberg Hand chairs.

"It's definitely got to be maximum vibe," he explains.  "Sexy and warm -sophisticated yet still approachable."

Now I have seen a few images of his glamorous Parisian apartment here and there, but never really took the time to explore even further...until today.  I hope you enjoy as much as I have!

TREND ALERT - OLIVE GREEN

You know how they say nothing is new and everything comes back in style?  Get ready for your new favorite color come spring.  It's not white, or a pastel color. Not even neon.  It's olive.  Yes, olive.

Strong, sophisticated, and timeless, olive green is the perfect color to incorporate into your décor.  It's even been established as one of the hot color trends of 2015.

Olive green has been around in home decor and design for a very long time. There are many ways to use it in a traditional design or mix it with bold textures and colors to make it modern.  It looks amazing paired with a multitude of colors such as white, black, navy, orange, and turquoise.

It also pairs well with brass or gold accents, marble, oil rubbed bronze, dark woods like walnut, leather and animal prints.

Olive green is well-suited to the luxurious textures of mohair and velvet.  The color is very versatile, fresh, and works beautifully in both modern and traditional home designs.  It is a rich, bold color that works well in so many applications.

Are you ready to embrace this old but new again color into your design scheme this year?
